Paros in Indigo Wash
Distinct to a handful of islands, this remarkable design would have originally been executed in deep red needlepoint and is believed to be influenced by Venetian patterns for embroidery and lace.
The islands of the Cyclades were connected to Venice through trade and periodic conquest, which created great trade wealth and lead to the development of distinct and elaborate textile traditions. Interestingly, the pattern originating from Venice is believed to have been inspired by even earlier Venetian trade with Mamluk Egypt, as early as the tenth century.
